New Single & Video: “It’s Over Now”!
You can preorder the album today in an exclusive pressing on marbled blue “Oceania” vinyl.
“It’s Over Now” first emerged as a slower, more sombre song — about letting go of a failed relationship, one that seemed viable but that ultimately just didn’t work out,” says Lightfoot. “In-studio, it took on a new life as a straight-ahead rock song, and I can definitely take comfort in that. The drive of the band behind me puts me in a comfortable space to sing that intense chorus vocal.
The song also gave me another chance to work with my talented creative pal Mat Dunlap. Mat’s CV includes work as videographer and graphic designer for The Sheepdogs, Andy Shauf, and Rose Cousins, and I was lucky to have him design my new album and also direct, shoot and edit this video.
Mat and I met up in Los Angeles in late February, right before the whole world shifted. I brought a fake fur coat I found at the Hamilton Value Village that I thought made me look a little like Cruella de Vil. We woke so early to shoot this footage near his home in Echo Park that I neglected to curl my hair. I remember thinking I was supposed to be serious for this video (the hardest thing for me — I tend to laugh or smile as soon as a lens is pointed at me) and somehow Mat captured a few crucial blue steel moments, plus some studio footage of me with a green guitar I stole from a friend’s studio an hour before we shot the footage. Enjoy!
